Agland Team Members / Flavio Feferman Flavio Feferman, Director, is a consultant with 18 years of experience in economic development, agribusiness, feasibility studies, regional competitiveness, and program evaluation for organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), as well as private companies and investors. His work focuses on establishing new business ventures in developing countries, collaborating with private sector companies and public sector organizations. Mr. Feferman advises investors and companies in areas such as finance, market research, and business planning. He has worked in numerous countries in Latin America and Africa, and recently served as keynote speaker for a conference on business and economic development sponsored by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Mr. Feferman participated in cluster competitiveness initiatives in Brazil, Argentina, Algeria and the U.S., primarily focusing on agricultural sectors. He currently focuses on the development of new bio-fuel ventures in tropical regions. Mr. Feferman has significant experience managing international economic development projects. He served as Project Director for the CELTA Trade Park feasibility study – a proposed center for managing perishable exports in Bogotá, Colombia. As part of this project, he directed a team of three consulting firms under a contract with USTDA. Mr. Feferman also served as coordinator of the agricultural clusters for the “Pro-Northeast Initiative,” an economic competitiveness program financed by the World Bank in Brazil. As part of this project he carried out international market studies, organized and moderated industry groups, gave marketing presentations to business leaders, and promoted commercial contacts between Brazilian companies and North American firms, leading to expanded trade opportunities. In the area of agribusiness, Mr. Feferman served as a consultant for the IDB, evaluating export promotion projects in Latin America, including a proposed trade promotion and investment attraction program for the Río Negro province of Argentina. He also consulted for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Emerging Markets Division, on a marketing study of processed vegetables in Mexico and Central America, which outlined specific business opportunities for investors and exporters. He collaborated with U.S. and Chinese investors to develop a business plan for a join-venture focusing on the U.S. market for ornamental potted plants. More recently, Mr. Feferman worked with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on the evaluation and design of a major economic development initiative for El Salvador, with projected investments of more than $100 million. He currently collaborates with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on a financial feasibility study for an ethanol and sugar project, with the goal of establishing bio-fuel production in the country. In addition to his work in agriculture and economic development projects, Mr. Feferman provides management consulting services to private companies and investors in areas such as market research, finance, and business/industry development. He has developed marketing and business plans for new ventures in agribusiness, real estate, and information technology. Mr. Feferman currently serves as a member of the board of advisors of two technology companies: Proxi Management Decisions, in the United States, and Unito Sistemas in Brazil, a company he co-founded. Mr. Feferman also collaborated with the World Bank on an assessment of the IT/Telecom industry cluster in Algeria. Mr. Feferman obtained a Masters in Business Administration (full-time M.B.A.) from the University of California Berkeley (Haas), with emphasis on Finance and Marketing. He also holds a Masters degree in Economic Development and Agricultural Economics from Stanford University, as well as a B.A. in Quantitative Economics from Stanford. He was an instructor in Economics at Stanford and at U.C. Berkeley. Mr. Feferman is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. |
